Announcing HP Application Lifecycle Intelligence (ALI)
We are thrilled to announce the availability of HP Application Lifecycle Intelligence (ALI), a technology embedded in HP ALM 11 that aggregates information from multiple application development tools to establish complete ALM traceability. ALI can surface actionable information and help ALM stakeholders in making informed decisions. In this release, ALI works with source code repositories. In the future, we will expand ALI to connect to build and continuous integrations tools.

The ALI software is free to download and use, but it only works in HP ALM product. You can download it from the following location: http://updates.merc-int.com/qualitycenter/qc110/others/ali/index.html

How does ALI add value to HP ALM?
HP ALM is a unified software platform to support all aspects of delivering applications from requirements through readiness for delivery. While HP ALM 11 has supported traceability between requirements, test and defects and visibility to tasks and progress of application delivery, to fully gain insight and remove the latency in decision making, complete traceability is needed down to the actual artifacts and systems used by development teams to build the applications.

ALI brings this level of insight to HP ALM by linking requirements, testing activities and defects to source code at this release and will extend that linkage to additional developer tools (i.e.. build) in the future. With ALI, a full assessment of application delivery progress can be made, change impact can be easily visualized, risks associated, and critical next-step decisions can be made confidently.  Developers become a seamless, integrated part of the application lifecycle and project managers and QA managers can assess risk of code changes and apply additional resources in real-time as needed.  With this level of insight and action, IT gains significantly reduced cycle times and faster time to business value.

Open Integration Framework
With the help of ALI, we have integrated HP ALM with Subversion, CVS, AccuRev and Microsoft Team Foundation Server. Perforce integration is a roadman item. ALI provides a REST-based open integration framework to integrate with any SCM system in the market.

Complete Cross-Platform Traceability
HP ALM 11 provides traceability between requirements, test and defects and visibility to tasks and progress of application delivery, to fully gain insight and remove the latency in decision making, complete traceability is needed down to the actual artifacts and systems used by development teams to build the applications.

ALI enhances the level of insight to HP ALM by linking requirements, testing activities and defects to source code at this release and will extend that linkage to additional developer tools (i.e... build) in the future. ALI is the only solution in the industry to provide platform-agnostic visibility and traceability across distributed SCM systems.

Improve Application Quality
According to Capers Jones, “On average, 25% of application defects are found by customers.” According to our research, it costs almost 100 times more to fix a production defect than a design defect. These defects also impacts customer loyalty and business growth. So how can we eliminate defects and improve customer satisfaction? HP ALM with ALI can solve that problem. ALI provides the ability to monitor multiple SCM systems and report untested source code changes. With these change impact reports, QA and development organizations can collaborate to identify and fix defects early in the lifecycle.
